This course is for staff working in clinical roles. The aim of the course is to help learners understand ways to interact in a culturally competent manner with CALD patients and families. This course will increase awareness of your own cultural values, gain skills to recognise cultural differences and develop skills to apply the principles of cultural competence in practice.
Module 1CS
This course is for customer service or non-clinical roles. The aim of this course is to increase awareness of your own cultural values and cultural values different from your own and to develop skills to apply the principles of cultural competence in your interaction with CALD clients.
Module 201
This course aims to provide the essential knowledge and skills to help interpreters provide more effective remote interpreting services when working in the healthcare setting.
Module 2
The aim of this course is to understand ways that you can interact in a culturally competent and sensitive manner with migrant patients.
Module 3
The aim of this course is to introduce you to the refugee experience and to assist you in working with refugee patients and families in consultations.
Module 4
The aim of this course is to enhance your knowledge and skills when working with interpreters and to improve your communication with non-English speaking migrant and refugee patients (and family members).
Module 6
This course aims to provide strategies for managing cross-cultural interactions, treatment, and interventions when working with CALD clients and families during palliative and end-of-life care.
Module 7
The aim of this course is to ensure learners are aware of religious diversity and gain skills to assess and accommodate the spiritual/religious needs of patients and families.
Module 8
The aim of this course is to introduce you to the challenges of working with the cultural beliefs about disability that impact on treatment and interventions, as well as ways to accommodate different beliefs and attitudes wherever possible.
Module 10
The aim of this course is to provide strategies for managing cross-cultural interactions, screening, assessment, treatment and interventions when working with CALD children, adolescents and families in a mental health context.
Module 11
The aim of this course is to provide strategies for managing cross-cultural interactions, assessment, intervention and treatment in an addiction context when working with CALD clients and their families.
Module 1+4
A pre-requisite to other CALD courses. This course is a combination of the two courses: CALD 1 Culture and Cultural Competency and CALD 4 Working with Interpreters.
Module 301-1
The module offers some background information on cultural concepts and constructs integral to interacting with CALD clients and their families, which may impact or underlie clinical presentations.
Module 301-2
It provides knowledge for recognising the differing expression of distress and explanations of illness; strategies to engage with CALD clients and their families; considerations when using screening tools and conducting Mental Status Examination; a cultural assessment tool and guidance on how to develop a cultural formulation.
Module 301-3
It provides knowledge for selecting suitable therapeutic modalities for CALD clients; understanding ethnopsychopharmacology applicable to CALD clients; identifying differing ethnocultural transference issues, and; collaborative approaches to enhance clinical intervention.
Module 301-4
This module focuses on working with spoken-language interpreters in a mental health context. The aim is to provide essential knowledge and practical skills to help clinicians work more effectively with interpreters in a mental health context.
Module C
This face to face workshop is suitable for managers leading culturally diverse teams.
