The Asian Network Incorporated (TANI) has launched its new publication “Asian Public Health in Aotearoa” in October. This report is a review of key public health issues affecting Asian peoples in Aotearoa New Zealand.
The findings highlighted:
Racism against Asians in NZ as high
Physical health varies among Asian ethnic groups
Mental health is a key concern
Service usages is low
Recommendations and opportunities include:
A plan for Asian health in NZ is needed
More targeted services and a more culturally appropriate workforce are required
Increasing engagement and accessibility is imperative for increasing service usage
Improve data analysis, and reporting to get a better understanding of any issues
