The aim of this course is to develop your skills to provide strategies for managing cross-cultural interactions, screening, assessment, treatment and interventions when working with CALD clients in a mental health context.
This course is intended for health professionals working in secondary care, primary care and NGO sectors who is currently providing mental health services to or who is planning/anticipating working with culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) migrant and refugee clients from Asian, Middle Eastern and African backgrounds.
You must complete the following course before enrolling in this course:
The Module 9 course only provides a recap of Modules 2, 3, 4, and 7 and it is highly recommended that learners complete Modules 2, 3, 4, 7 to have more background information before or after doing this course.
You also need to familiarise yourself with the Pre Course Reading information . This course will not repeat or explain in detail the information in the pre-course reading however some of the materials will be referred to in the course.
Participants completing this course will be able to:
On completing this course you will be able to develop skills to engage with CALD clients and their families; will have better understanding of the challenges of cross-cultural assessment and sensitive issues that impact on mental health engagement, screening, diagnosis and treatment outcome. You will have developed new skills for cross-cultural engagement, assessment, intervention and treatment.
Before attending the Module 9 face to face course or starting the Module 9 online course we highly recommend that you familiarise yourself with topics discussed in the Pre Course Reading for the Module 9 Working in a Mental Health Context with CALD clients course. The Module 9 course will not repeat or explain in detail the information in this pre-course reading however some of the materials will be referred to in the course.
